MATERIAL NEEDED

  • Yarn: Super Bulky Weight (6) Yarn
    • Bernat Blanket, Main: Crimson - approx. 10g
    • Bernat Pipsqueak, Contrast: Whitey White - approx. 4g
  • 6.5 mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

SPECIAL NOTES

  • Each part is crocheted in continuous rounds unless noted otherwise.
  • Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.
  • The numbers within parentheses at the end of each round are the total number of stitches for that round [ie. (12)].
  • An alternative to the magic circle is the chain 2 method.
  • I crochet using the yarn over/yarn over method.
  • Finished size: approx. 2.5"-3" tall when folded over.

ABBREVIATIONS (US Terms)

dec - decrease

FLO - front loop only

inc - increase

hdc - half double crochet

sc - single crochet

st/sts - stitch(es)

sl st - slip stitch

 THE HAT

Use the 6.5 mm hook and start in the main colour (red).

Round 1 – 4 sc in a magic circle (4)

Round 2 – inc, 3 sc (5)

Round 3 – 2 sc, inc, 2 sc (6)

Rounds 4 to 5 – 1 sc in each st around (6) 2 rounds

Round 6 – (2 sc, inc) x 2 (8)

Round 7 – (1 sc, inc) x 4 (12)

Round 8 – (3 sc, inc) x 3 (15)

Rounds 9 to 10 – 1 sc in each st around (15) 2 rounds

Colour change to the contrast colour (white), bind off the main colour (red) and leave a long tail for attaching to the head.

Round 11 – FLO: (4 hdc, inc) x 3 (18)

Bind off and weave in the finishing tail.

THE POM

Use the 6.5 mm hook and the contrast colour (fluffy white).

Round 1 – 8 sc in a magic circle (8)

Round 2 – 1 sc in each st around (8)

Round 3 – (dec) x 4 (4)

Bind off and leave a tail for attaching.

Attaching the Pom to the Hat

Do not stuff. Attach at round 1 of the hat.

 

Attaching the Hat to the Head

Lightly stuff to hold shape. Attach round 10 of the hat directly to the head where you like best.

Fold the top of the hat over to the side (at rounds 5 or 6) and secure it using the yarn tail.
